  • San Francisco Launches “Investigation” Over Elon Musk’s X Logo on Headquarters

Elon Musk’s recent tweet featuring a drone video showcasing a new white X-shaped light atop X’s headquarters in San Francisco has sparked an investigation by the city.

According to the Associated Press (AP), concerns arose that the installation of the X logo might have violated regulations, as no permit was obtained for placing the sign of this size on the building.

The X logo is taking over the iconic Twitter bird as part of Musk’s rebranding efforts for the social media platform, which he acquired in October. However, the city requires permits for such installations to ensure safety and maintain the historic integrity of the building. The Department of Building Inspection spokesperson confirmed that a complaint has been filed, and an investigation is underway.

In response to the controversy, Musk tweeted on Saturday, expressing X’s commitment to stay in San Francisco despite lucrative incentives from other cities to relocate. He emphasized that the company would remain a friend to the beautiful city, even as others consider leaving.

Online, the X team has been actively rebranding by replacing the Twitter bird with the new X symbol. Their long-term vision is to transform X into an “everything app” that provides various services under one platform, similar to China’s WeChat.

Since acquiring X (previously Twitter) in a $44 billion deal, Musk has made significant changes to the platform, which has drawn mixed reactions from users and advertisers. He recently appointed former NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino as CEO to address the platform’s challenges and navigate its future direction.

As the investigation unfolds, the transformation of X continues, aiming to create a unique and versatile platform that stands out in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
